Client: Regional Municipality of York
Accardi Engineering Group was awarded a project by the City of Markham that involved the rehabilitation of approximately two kilometers of a 600-mm ductile iron watermain, situated between McCowan Road and Main Street Markham North. The primary objective was to enhance and renew the existing infrastructure, addressing the section spanning from the valve chamber located at the intersection of Main Street Markham North and Wilson Street, extending along Church Street and Ninth Line, and reaching south of Berczy Gate. The project aimed to upgrade and potentially replace the remaining segment to ensure the optimal functionality of the watermain system.
The primary focus of the project was the deteriorating condition of the 600-mm ductile iron watermain between McCowan Road and Main Street Markham North, along with concerns about aging infrastructure. The scope of work involved the renewal and potential replacement of the identified watermain segment, aiming to optimize its functionality and ensure its long-term viability. Activities within the scope included rehabilitation measures, infrastructure upgrades, and the implementation of solutions to extend the lifespan of the watermain, ultimately contributing to the reliability and efficiency of the water supply system in the designated area.
The project’s key deliverables involved rehabilitating the identified watermain segment, renewing and potentially replacing infrastructure, and implementing upgrades to optimize system functionality. The milestones included the successful completion of rehabilitation activities, infrastructure renewal, and achieving improved watermain functionality, all aimed at alleviating the client’s challenges related to maintenance and potential service disruptions.
