Accardi Engineering Group Joins Design Team for City of Vaughan’s Black Creek Renewal Project

Accardi Engineering Group is proud to be part of the design team for the City of Vaughan’s Black Creek Renewal Project. The project will transform a key natural corridor into a sustainable, connected, and culturally rich public space.

Awarded through a design-build partnership between Memme Infrastructure Contractors and Dynex Construction, the multi-year project will rehabilitate the Black Creek corridor with a focus on flood protection, mobility, ecological restoration, and placemaking. Accardi Engineering Group will be the project management lead along with its civil and municipal engineering lead   for this monumental project. Our team will oversee all project management, infrastructure upgrades, active transportation facilities, road improvements, extensive utility relocations, permitting and project oversight.

The renewed corridor will serve as both critical infrastructure and vibrant civic space that supports stormwater flow, enhances active transportation routes, and incorporates native landscaping, public lookouts, and interpretive art to tell the story of the community. Key elements include:

  • The design and construction of Edgley Pond and Park, featuring a new pedestrian bridge, creek realignment, and naturalized plantings.
  • Streetscape upgrades along Jane Street from Apple Mill Road to Highway 7, supporting pedestrian access and local business vitality.
  • Infrastructure improvements including the upsizing of the Black Creek culvert and corridor realignment between Highway 7 and Highway 407 to reduce flood risk and improve ecological performance.
  • Outfall improvements and retaining wall design to support the reconfigured watercourse and protect surrounding lands.
  • Earthworks, site grading, and utility relocations to accommodate the new creek alignment, public park space, and road improvements.
  • Streetscape and active transportation integration, ensuring that new sidewalks, multi-use paths, and roadway features are fully coordinated with drainage systems.

“This project is a great opportunity to show the community what’s possible when infrastructure design is approached with safety, sustainability, and community impact in mind,” said Joe Accardi, President at Accardi Engineering Group. “We’re excited to collaborate with our partners and contribute to a project that will have long-lasting benefits for the City of Vaughan.”

The project is being delivered in partnership with Montrose Environmental, Jewell Engineering, and SDG Landscape Architects. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

Stay tuned for more updates as this project moves forward.
